Water baptism is a vital New Testament commandment to all believers. Coming up out of the water signifies our being raised to new life in Christ. To be raised with Jesus means making Him Lord of every area of your life: spirit, soul and body.
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit." (Matthew 28:19)
The significance of water baptism is that it demonstrates our identification with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. When a person receives Jesus as Lord and Savior, the nature of sin is removed and the righteousness of God is imparted. (Romans 6:4-6). When you are buried with Jesus in the water of baptism, you are proclaiming that the "old" you no longer exists. To be buried with Jesus means that your old self died to sin just as Jesus died when He was made sin for us. (Proverbs 6:3,6,10-12). Life Church baptizes by full immersion because it clearly demonstrates our being raised to new life in Jesus.
You don't have to be a member of Life Church to participate in water baptism. But it is mandatory that you attend one session with the Associate Pastor who oversees our baptism ministry. If you desire to be baptized please contact the church at 704.289.4911.
